A good Chinese rock crystal wine ewer, formed as a phoenix, the spout forming the head, the body carved with wings and feet, and with flowers and leaves surrounding the cover, the knop carved as a pomegranate and finger citron, 18th/19th century, 15.8cm. (2) Provenance: Sackville, 5th Earl of Yarborough, purchased from John Sparks Ltd., for 79 guineas, and recorded in the Sparks archive. Cf. Christie's, New York, 20 October 2004, lot 581, for a similar example from the collection of C. Ruxton and Audrey B. Love.
