A pair of William IV Engraved Medical Prize Medals, The Manchester School of Medicine and Surgery, Pine Street, the reverse engraved with Mr Edwin Bennett for Excelling in the Examinationon the Principles and Practice of Physic conducted by Dr James L Bardsley* in the Session 1833; the second for "Materia Medica", plain borders, fixed suspension loop, both 70mm, Sheffield Hallmarks, maker James Dixon & Son. *Dr [later Sir] James Lomax Bardsley (1801-1876), mostly remembered as Physician to the Manchester Infirmary, but he was highly influential in the early years of the Manchester School of medicine and Surgery, which was originally founded in Pine Street School of Medicine, in 1825 by Thomas Turner, F.R.C.S. It later became the Manchester Royal School of Medicine and Surgery.
