A rare Chinese red lacquer throne

A rare Chinese red lacquer throne, with a curved back constructed from five panels, three of which are inset with mother of pearl motifs. The panels decorated with many shou characters amidst cloud scrolls to the interior and with bat roundels to the reverse. The seat caned with an upholstered cushion, the five panels Ming dynasty, the remainder later, the base with the remains of a paper label for Sackville 5th Earl Yarborough. Extensively distressed, 126.5cm wide, 100cm high. Provenance: Sackville, 5th Earl of Yarborough. Purchased from Henry Spencer & Son, Retford, January 1995.
