A Chinese bronze figure of a Daoist Immortal 17th century, finely cast sitting in the European manner on a high throne and holding a sceptre of office, the hair tied back beneath an ornate hat and with a thick cascading robe with tassels and sashes, 31cm. Provenance: an English private collection, acquired by the owner's grandfather from Spink and Son Ltd. during the 1960s. Bears Spink paper label. Cf. R. Kerr, Later Chinese Bronzes, pl. 68 for a related figure of the patron god Wen Chang.
