An early George III mahogany tea chest

An early George III mahogany tea chest, with silver line inlay and ebonised moulding, each panel decorated quatrefoils, the rectangular body with canted corners and a hinged lid with a kingwood sloping edge, the scroll handle hall marked with lion passant and makers initials J.S, revealing a pair of rectangular canisters, lead lined with sliding faceted cover and turned ebonised lid with inset disc engraved a crest, flanking a further canister with sliding domed cover, the front with inset pierced Gothic escutcheon, 8.25in (21cm) h, 10.25in (26cm) w, 6in (15cm) d. The crest is possibly for Peech or Pindar (also spelt Pyndar). The lion passant is post 1755.
