A London delftware twelve tile panel c.1730-40

£400 - £600 £980

A London delftware twelve tile panel c.1730-40, painted in blue and depicting birds in flight above a tall tree, a flag flying from a castellated tower in the bottom right corner, set in an old lead mount, 51cm x 38cm overall.

These 12 tiles formed part of a larger panel, which would probably have been made for a specific building. Similar examples can be found in the Allen Gallery, Alton, the Saffron Walden Museum, and illustrated in Jonathan Horne, Tin-Glazed Tiles, p.121, and Anthony Ray, English Delftware Tiles, pl.11.
