‡Harry Robert Mileham (1873-1957)

Tristram's Deathbed

Signed with monogram and dated 1902

Oil on canvas

78 x 90cm; 30½ x 35½in

Together with a sketch for the head of Isolde, oil on paper, her profile with pin pricks for transfer, 21 x 26cm and a sketch for Tristram's death, oil on brown paper 26 x 38cm (3)

The influence of Frederic Lord Leighton's work Elisha raising the son of the Shunamite of 1881, now at Leighton House, on the composition and the treatment of the fabrics in Tristram's Deathbed is clear. Mileham would have been familiar with the picture as he visited the artists house.
