A George III large barrel with four bands of reeded hoops, unscrewing in the middle to reveal the steel grater, the base with an engraved coat of arms, the cover with a crest, by Samuel Meriton, London c.1770 (maker's mark only struck twice, 1.85in (4.8cm).
