Masonic Interest: a George III papier mache snuff box and cover, circular, inset with an oval polychrome, enamelled plaque entitled "NIGHT - the light shone through the darkness" depicting a bonfire before the ruins of H.R.D.M. Castle in commemoration of the institution of the Royal Cumberland Free Mason School on Lady day, 25th March 1788 under the auspi?? of her Royal Highness the Dutchess of Cumberland". the plaque signed " W.ESSEX 35 NORTHAMPTON ST, LONDON" on the reverse (minor cracks and chips) the box unmatched c.1810, 3.6in (9cm) diameter.
