Salisbury Auctioneers Woolley and Wallis emerge from 2005 as the largest-grossing UK provincial sale
07 Feb, 2006
Woolley and Wallis are celebrating a record year with total
sales from January to December 2005 of £8.96m, well up on record
figures of £7.37m achieved in the previous 12 months. This makes
them the largest-grossing provincial saleroom in Britain.
Strong results were recorded across all Woolley and Wallis'
specialist departments with a significant contribution to this
impressive sum being made by the sale of the Yuan dynasty vase
which fetched £2.6m last July, by far the highest price ever
realised in a UK saleroom outside London. That vase was part of
Woolley and Wallis' first stand-alone Oriental sale, a sale they
will make a bi-annual event this year. The company also plans to
repeat the highly successful 2005 Martin Potters sale again this
year.
Chairman Paul Viney commented `We are delighted to have been the
largest regional saleroom in the country in 2005 and are hugely
grateful to all our clients for their continued support. To make
auction history with the Yuan vase was a marvellous moment for us,
but we certainly can't rest on our laurels. We have some exciting
plans for the coming year which include strengthening and expanding
our specialist departments'.
