Time on his Hands

Antiques Roadshow
expert, Richard Price, has joined the Clock department as a
consultant at Woolley and Wallis Salisbury Salerooms. The
horological valuer turned dealer has been a familiar face on the
BBC's flagship antiques programme for some 25 years and his
extensive knowledge of timepieces has gained him an excellent
reputation in the trade.
Clocks were not
Richard's first love, however, and it will be a surprise to many
Roadshow fans to find out that he was first and foremost a
long-haul pilot for British Airways. This unusual career he
continued alongside 19 years as a specialist at Bonhams and as a
dealer in clocks and watches, finding it very useful on occasions.
"If I bought any stock when I was abroad the cockpit was an ideal
way to transport it safely back to the UK. It wasn't unknown for
any large clocks to be strapped into the third pilot's seat when I
was flying for BA. I don't think you'd get away with it today
though!"
Richard has now
retired from B.A. but continues as a dealer, exhibiting at Olympia
and other fairs. Paul Viney, Chairman of Woolley and Wallis
thinks he will be a very valuable addition to the saleroom's Clock
department. "I am delighted that Richard, who has been a personal
friend for many years, has joined us. We both feel that there
is a lot of potential for us in clocks and I've no doubt that
Richard's knowledge, enthusiasm and experience will greatly enhance
our clock department."
