A FINE CHINESE RED-OVERLAY GLASS 'PAVILION' SNUFF BOTTLE
18TH CENTURY
The pear-shaped body carved through the dark red overlay to a clear bubble-suffused ground with the sun, a three legged toad, rocks and a walled city emerging from crashing waves, a crane in flight holding a scroll in its beak and a pavilion floating in the clouds, 8cm.
Provenance: from the collection of Professor J Norman Collie, FRS (1859-1942) and thence by descent.
