Sewing interest: A late 18th century continental engraved sewing etui, of elongated baluster form with a disc foot, initialled, the whole unscrewing in four sections to reveal a compartment for needles, a smelling box and a bobbin which in turn unscrews to reveal a very small compartment, the cover a thimble, struck with a makers mark, town mark (both indistinct) and two 19th century French tax marks, unascribed, probably German, late 18th century, 4.2in (10.5cm).
