A late 18th century chinoiserie mother of pearl mounted snuff box, dual compartment, with a hinged base and cover, shaped thumbpieces and reeded borders, the sides each formed from a carved oblong panel depicting Chinese musicians in a formal garden landscape overlooking a bay, the cover and base with inset panels depicting native figures chasing away a dog, struck only with later Dutch duty marks, c.1770, 3.15in (8cm) wide.
