A George IV silvergilt oblong snuff box

A George IV silvergilt oblong snuff box, of shallow oblong form with reeded sides, an engine turned base and large chased foliate borders, the cover inset with a classical scene probably depicting Vulcan with attendants forging arrows for Mars, the interior inscribed "From a British Merchant to Captain Charles Talbot of H.M. Ship Warspite 12th April 1831", by Edward Smith, Birmingham 1827, 2.75in (7cm) wide, 5.25oz.
