Fine Chinese Works of Art

Tuesday 15th November 2022. Starts at 14:30pm

Highlights from the sale include a rare and exceptional pair of Chinese Imperial yellow-ground Tibetan-style ewers (lot 608), Penba hu, with six-character Jiaqing marks and of the period 1796-1820. These ewers were designed for purification rituals and contained holy water infused with saffron. They are decorated with the Eight Auspicious Emblems, baijixiang, on the yellow ground reserved for Imperial use, and it is likely that they were a special commission for the Jiaqing Emperor.

Lot 607 is a fine Chinese Imperial green-enamelled 'dragon' jar and cover, with a six-character Qianlong mark and of the period 1736-95. From the collection of Admiral Robert Coote CB (1820-98) and thence by descent, it is the pair to lot 576 sold in these rooms on 17th May 2022 for over £190,000 (incl.BP) on 17th May 2022.

The sale features many other high-quality works of art including ceramics, bronzes, jades, paintings, and others.
