A large Chinese cast iron seated figure of a lama, his hands in uttarabodhi, seated on a lotus throne and raised on a high pierced hexagonal base, cast with panels of flowers and foliage, the reverse with a twelve character mark including a date for the 2nd year of Jiajing corresponding to 1523, 60cm. Cf. The Avery Brundage Collection, Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, no 164, for a related figure of Buddha dated 1520. Sheila Riddell, Dated Chinese Antiquities, for a similar pair.
