An early 18th century Flemish verdure tapestry

An early 18th century Flemish verdure tapestry, depicting a cottage in a wooded river landscape, with a jay on a branch and other birds within a guilloche trompe l'oeil frame the top with swags of fruit and flowers the base with two putti flanking an urn and with garlands of flowers, attributed to Oudenaarde, c.1720, with a later backing, 115.5 x 95.5in (293.5 x 242.5cm). Provenance: Purchased by the vendor's grandfather at Bernheimer, Munich, c.1902-1906. From the 15th century onwards the area of Oudenaarde in Flanders was famous for the production of tapestries in particular it was highly commended for its 'green work'.
