A JAPANESE PRUNUS WOOD NETSUKE OF A FISHERMAN AND OCTOPUS
MEIJI ERA, 19TH CENTURY

The seated man depicted with his mouth wide open, yelling as an octopus emerges from the basket on his back and strangles him with his long tentacles; a faint signature underneath possibly for Rakumin, follower of Miwa, 3.9cm.

Provenance: formerly in the collection of André Spoerry, sold at Millon, Paris, 14th December 2018, lot 331.
