An early 19th century French tortoiseshell box, the rectangular box with gold interior, maker's lozenge PATM and French control marks. The hinged cover applied with two hardstone cameos, the octagonal mounts with foliate decoration on textured ground within blue enamel borders. The cameos believed to be depicting the two philosophers Plato (left) and his pupil Aristotle (right). 8.7cm wide. Fitted case.
