An early 20th century gold fede ring designed as a pair of hands
An early 20th century gold fede ring designed as a pair of hands, clasping an oval domed sapphire intaglio depicting the female figure Fortuna. The sapphire, late 19th century, 1.7cm high. With two inscriptions, to the inside EFFRENATIO (lust) and to the outside COERCITIO (restraint). The ring was apparently made for Gabriele D'Annunzio, 1863 - 1938, the famous Italian politician.
