Silver & Objects of Vertu

The 17th July Silver & Objects of Vertu sale comprises 778 lots of flatware, antique and modern silver, objects of vertu, foreign, Irish and Scottish silver.  A feature of the post-war and modern section of the sale is a commemorative silver inkwell, by Sebastian Garrard, London 1935, owned by H.G. Murphy (1884-1939), and thence by descent to the present owner, estimate £300-400. Highlights of the sale also include an Edwardian silver Drew’s Patent picnic basket, estimate £1,500-2,000, an Austrian novelty silver elephant salt pot, estimate £200-300, and a pair of Charles II silver chinoiserie toilet boxes, estimate £2,000-3,000.

The sale also contains several private collections, including approximately 90 lots of wine and bin labels, a collection of primarily Queen Anne Dog-nose spoons and a small collection of apple corers.
