Day 1 - Tribal Art the Americas, Indonesia & Oceania

Wednesday 18th September 2019. Starts at 10:00am

Please note, this is a two day sale, including Thursday 19th September.

This two day sale includes the usual wide variety of objects including textiles, weapons, figures, masks, staffs and jewellery. The Samuel Mason Collection of North American artefacts was secretly hidden behind a false wall, and revealed objects collected over the last 50 years including beadwork, rifle cases, tobacco pouches, clubs and clothing.

The Oceanic section of Day 1 includes an early 19th century Maori feather box waka huia with the lid inscribed 1830, and a wonderful Marquesas Islands U’u war club from the family of Elijah Armitage; a missionary living in Tahiti from 1821 to 1836.

Antiquities in Day 2 will allow bidders to compete for objects from the estate of the late Ingrid McAlpine, a prominent dealer from the 1970’s, ranging from Egyptian to Greek and Roman. Specialist Will Hobbs' particular favourites being a group of South Italian owl skyphoi, dating to the 4th century BC, that have been lotted individually. He looks forward to seeing you at the view.

Woolley's Live, our online bidding software, will be available for this sale via bid.woolleyandwallis.co.uk.

This is a complimentary service with no additional surcharge compared to 4.95%+vat on The Saleroom.
