New Member of Staff, New Department

We are pleased to announce the arrival of Ned Cowell as head of the new Arms & Armour, Medals & Coins and Militaria department.
Ned started his career as a porter at a small saleroom in Chippenham in 2000. Moving to George Kidner auctioneers in Lymington in 2002, he soon found an opportunity to combine his work with a lifelong enthusiasm for weapons and military history by producing a series of regular arms and militaria auctions.
He comes to Woolley and Wallis with more than a decade of saleroom and rostrum experience in the fields of medals, firearms, edged weapons, militaria, and associated disciplines to create a new department covering these subjects and also encompassing coins – all sectors of the market that continue to enjoy considerable buoyancy.

There are more and more collectors looking to augment their collections so now is a good time to be selling. His first sale will be on the 19th October sale. Already consigned is a D.S.O. group of two to Captain Harry Crewe Godley, Northumberland Fusiliers: Distinguished Service Order, VR; Queen's South Africa Medal, one clasp, Belmont (Capt. H.C. GODLEY, D.S.O., North'n R), ghost dates, GVF; mounted for wearing and together with associated mounted miniatures. Estimate £2,000 -3,000.
From a private collection is this fine 24 bore flintlock pistol by Samuel Nock, smooth bored sighted octagonal barrel 7 in., top flat engraved 'GUN MAKER to his MAJESTY', estimated at £1,800 – 2,200.
Ned will be based at Old Sarum, alongside Mark Richards who runs the Furniture & Works of Art department and Will Hobbs head of Tribal Art & Antiquities.
