Influences on Ceramics: Changing tastes through the centuries
16th October 2025Our Director and Head of Japanese Art Alexandra Aguilar will be giving a talk on Saturday 18th October as part of the London Ceramic Circle Seminar titled "Influences on Ceramics: Changing tastes through the centuries". The event is to be held at St Columba’s Upper Hall, Pont Street, London SW1X OBD, from 10am-5pm and Alexandra will talk about three Japanese Art collections assembled between 1880-1910: those of William Cleverley Alexander (1840-1916), Michael Tomkinson (1841-1921), and Sir Merton (1835-1921) and Lady Annie Russell-Cotes (1835-1920).
The Seminar will also feature the talks by the following speakers;
- Jacqui Pearce - The Minnie Holdaway Lecture: Ceramic manufacture in London from medieval to Victorian times – an archaeological perspective on multiple influences
- John Sandon -The Three Manifestations of Rococo- and what came next. A look at the Rococo style on ceramics in the 18th century, the 1830s and the 1890s
- Raphael Machiels - Layer by Layer: Uncovering the Influences, Market and Manufactories of Pâte-sur-Pâte, 1865-1900.
