Description

An early George III embossed chinoiserie tea caddy, oblong with shoulders, a shaped scroll base and a hinged cover decorated in high relief with a rose, the flower forming the finial, the front and back panels depicting a Chinaman picking tea leaves, below a playful lion mask, within a sealed scrollwork reserve, the side panels each with a pagoda, crested on the base, by Daniel Smith and Robert Sharp, London 1762 (lead foil lining - deteriorated), 6in (15cm) high, 17oz gross.
