Description

Political Interest; a modern folding knife, inscribed with the facsimile signature "Anthony Eden", with a coat of arms on the reverse, with two steel blades, a file and a cigar piercer, by G Ibberson & Co, Sheffield 1947, 3.1in (7.75cm) long. Sir Anthony Eden succeeded Winston Churchill as Prime Minister in April 1955. Having been a brilliant Foreign Secretary, he was seen as the natural and promising heir. However, his premiership was to last just two years, endinig ignominiously with the Suez crisis. At the time of the knife's manufacture Eden was the Deputy Leader of the Opposition facing Attlees Labour government, returning to government in 1951 as Churchill's Foreign Secretary.
