Description
'An Early Riser' a Charles Martin pencil drawing dated 13th May 1896, contained in an autograph album, the album containing various other interesting designs signed by other artists, image 18 x 11.5cm. Provenance John Longden, thence by descent John Longden ran Longden's Coffee House frequented by the Martin Brothers, it is believed that the pots in this auction were gifted by the brothers for his financial support to them. The autograph book belonged to Annie Longden, his daughter and the vendor's grandmother. It is believed that it may well have been left 'on the counter' at one of the coffee shops where artists and aspiring artists were encouraged to add a drawing.
