Description

A Ludwig Schmidt rosewood and marquetry games table and four chairs canted square section, the frieze with a small drawer to each side, on square section legs inlaid with mother of pearl and marquetry flower stems, and brass plates, the chairs with moulded top rail and similar inlay paper labels, table (77 cm) high, (88 cm) wide, chairs (93 cm) high. (5) Provenance Applied Arts from 1880, Sotheby's London 17th June 1988, lot 336 Ludwig Schmidt was a member of the Austrian Arts and Crafts movement, studying at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts between 1908 and 1912. He had contracts with Koloman Moser. He worked on the Viennese interior for the Exposition Universelle, Paris 1900 designed by Joseph Albrecht.
