A fine Gordon Russell English walnut extending refectory table dated 5th August 1928, model no.5643, by cabinet makers Bert Jones and Reg France, plank top with twelve chevron carved pillar legs applied paper label to underside, 120 inches (305 cm) long (closed), with two additional extending leaves 36 inches (91 cm) wide Provenance Applied Arts from 1880, Sotheby's 17th June 1988, lot 345 Literature J.C Rogers Modern English Furniture Country Life, page 179 for a comparable table illustrated in bog oak.
