Description

A joined oak press cupboard, with a leaf carved frieze and turned pendants above a pair of cupboard doors carved with stylized thistles flanking a floral panel, the base with a lunette frieze above a pair of panelled doors and a conforming base, with an applied plaque inscribed 'COWDRAY, 848, 1919' , probably Scottish, 17th century and later, top and base possibly associated, 74.75in (189.8cm) h, 50.25in (127.8cm) w, 19.75in (50cm) d. Provenance: Bought by the vendor from the sale of the contents of the 'Residence of the Right Hon. Viscount Cowdray', Messrs G. Knight & Son, The Auction Room, Midhurst, Sussex, Thursday, January 29th, 1948, lot 58.
