Description

An unusual Safavid ewer, painted in blue and with black outlines, depicting a deer and a bird around the neck above a band of floral lappets and sketchily drawn flower heads and leaves, 17th century, painted mark to the base, the spout re-glued and chips beneath the foot, 18.4cm. Provenance: Ernest Ohly Collection. Cf. Y. Crowe, Persia and China, Safavid Blue and White Ceramics in the Victoria and Albert Museum, 1501-1738, p. 219 no. 380, for a similar form.
