Description

A Chinese red and black cinnabar lacquer circular box and cover, decorated with a procession of five figures, led by Lao Tzu the founder of Daoism, walking in a mountainous landscape, two carrying an enormous peach, and with a sixth figure and a deer below, the sides with swastika diaper designs, early 19th century, minor damages, 17.7cm. (2) Provenance: Acquired by John Reeves after his arrival in Canton in 1812, and thence by descent.
