Description
The following collection of autographs was gathered by Charles G. Kincaid who, in 1845, wrote to many of the famous writers of the day asking for a sample of their writing. As an example of one of his 'begging' letters in the album shows his pleas were elaborately phrased and were in fact very successful. The album was passed down through the family to the present owner.
Album, including poetry, signatures and letters by W. Harrison Ainsworth, Samuel Rogers, Thomas Carlyle, Samuel Rogers, James Ballantine, Felicia Hemans (2), Leigh Hunt, William Thackeray and Longfellow (cabinet photograph, signed), laid down, or partially laid down, a few tipped in, original half roan, worn, joints broken, 4to.
