Scott (Sir Walter). Autograph lines from his review of Pepys' Memoirs, beginning: ' If the reader believes in fruits of the ear rather than the pallate he may read Pepys' enthusiastic description …', 5 lines, slightly soiled, laid down on to an authenticating note, on thin gray paper dated March 28 1841 (?), reading: 'Sir, I enclose in compliance with your request a small piece of Sir W. Scott's autograph - it is from his review of Pepys's Memoirs in the Quarterly Review of 1826', signed by J.G. Lockhart, laid on to a page from an album. John Gibson Lockhart was editor of the 'Quarterly Review' from 1825 to 1853, and biographer of Sir Walter Scott.
