Candida and Astra were both designed by Charles E. Nicholson and built by Camper and Nicholson in Gosport, Hampshire, Candida in 1929 and Astra in 1928. Candida was owned by Herman A. Andreae of the banking family and Astra by Sir A. Mortimer Singer. Originally designed as 23 metre class yachts they were altered after construction to qualify for J Class racing. Astra had some success in light weather but Candida did not achieve much success. Both survive today as Yawls.
