Description

An unusual manganese Delft wet drug jar, painted with a disturbance at the heron house, five of the birds fleeing to find the river, around the inscription 'Syr. De Cydonys', 18th century, 21cm. Syrup of Quince has many uses including soothing digestive complaints and infections of the throat. Plutarch, among others, recommended it to newly weds as an early form of aphrodisiac.
