Description
An unusual delftware dry drug jar, painted with a flying wyvern beneath a shell and fruit topped cartouche titled 'C:ABSINTH:R', late 17th / early 18th century, 18cm.
The Museum of London holds a collection of 24 drug jars which feature a flying wyvern, and possibly relate to the arms of the Apothecaries Society which feature Apollo (the god of healing) killing Python as the dragon of disease.
