Description

A matched pair of delftware dry drug jars, painted with cherubs holding flowers above scrolled cartouches bearing the inscriptions 'BALS:LOCAT' and 'C:AURANT', 18th century, a hole to the base of one, 19cm. (2) Balsamum Locatelli is an ointment to cure ulcers named after the Italian physician that created it; Conserve of Aurantium is essentially a type of bitter marmalade used to soothe gastric complaints.
