Description

A pair of delftware dry drug jars, each painted with cherubs holding flowers above a scrolling cartouche, labelled 'E:E,BACC:LAUR' and 'E:E,SCORD:C:OP', each underside marked with a 'Q', 18th century, restoration to one, 20cm. (2) The titles on the jars refer to an electuary of scordium (Water Germander) with opium, and an electuary of bay-laurel berries. The latter ingredient is still used by herbalists today to combat rheumatism.
