Description

An American carved beechwood 'Evolution' chair, the padded back flanked by neanderthals above scroll arms and monkey supports, with a stuffed-over seat on foliate legs and a twin beast front stretcher. The Evolution chair is so called after an American high school teacher John T Scope was accused of violating the Butler Act in Tennessee, where the law forbids the teaching of evolution in public schools as is contradicts the bible.
