A Martin Brothers stoneware jug incised and painted with grotesque birds amongst tall wild flowers, painted in brown and green on a buff ground, incised 10-1894 Martin Bros London & Southall, hairline to top rim 21cm. high The anthropomorphic birds show the influence of Ernest Griset's prints and mystical bird designs on Robert Wallace and the Martin brothers.
