Description
A Victorian silver Gothic revival chalice,
by John Hardman and Co, Birmingham 1869,
circular tapering bowl, with a gilded interior, and applied panels of chased decoration on a matted background, gem set knopped stem, on a raised hexafoil base with religious symbols, height 20cm, approx. weight 17oz.

John Hardman and Co first collaborated with A.W.N.Pugin in 1838 and then continued to produce the majority of his designs in silver until his death in 1852. His influence stayed with the firm and they continued to make church plate and domestic items in the Gothic taste.
