Description
Four Spanish pottery albarelli, painted in blue with shaped cartouches within stylized foliate and floral scrolls, variously titled 'S. Fænugr.', 'Arcen. Rubr.', 'Sem. Liniy' and 'S. Cucurbit', probably 18th century, some damages and restoration, 28.8cm. (4)
These jars seem to have been used to store seeds including flax, pumpkin and fenugreek. These had various uses including expulsion of intestinal worms, promoting lactation and as an expectorant and diuretic.
