Description

A Venetian glass winged goblet, the flared bowl with a row of prunts, raised on an elaborate stem of two seahorses forming an inverted figure of eight,with two pinched wings to each side, on a folded foot, the glass lightly speckled with gilt, broken through the stem, 34.7cm. Provenance: From the estate of Niel Rimington (1928-2009) of Fonthill Old Abbey Estate, Wiltshire. Cf. Hugh Tait, The Golden Age of Venetian Glass, pp.84-89 for similar early examples.
