Description
A rare collection of ten Derby models of Dr Syntax, depicting the protagonist in various eccentric pursuits including 'Bound to a Tree', 'Landing at Calais' and 'Disputing a Bill with his Landlady', most taken from Thomas Rowlandson's prints and with painted and incised marks, c.1820, and an ivory pipe tamper carved as the head of Dr Syntax, minor damages and restoration. Together with five 19th century volumes of William Combe's poem, illustrated by Rowlandson, in modern bindings. (16)
