Description

A Chinese famille noire hexagonal teapot and cover, decorated with reticulated panels of pine, prunus and bamboo, the handle modelled as a fish, Kangxi 1662-1722, the lid a poor fit, damage to cover and spout, 15.5cm. (2) Provenance: Sackville, 5th Earl of Yarborough, purchased from John Sparks Ltd., for 95 guineas, and recorded in the Sparks archive. Cf. Bonhams, the du Boulay Collection of Chinese Ceramics, 2003, lot 9. A similar teapot, formerly at Burghley House, was included in the Devonshire Schedule, the house contents inventory 1688-1690.
