A 19th century treen rattle, with a turned lignum vitae handle. 10.5in (26.4cm) h, 9.75in (24.6cm). Over the years the rattle's use has been used as a bird scarer, by policemen, as an anti-burglar alarm, during WWII by air raid wardens and football supporters.
