Description

A Napoleon III ebonised, boulle marquetry and ormolu mounted side cabinet by Pretot, Paris, the detachable top inlaid brass stringing, above a stiff leaf frieze with a glazed door enclosing three shelves flanked by putto and foliage mounts, the sides with Hercules mask mounts, the top of the carcass stamped 'PRETOT 2', 47.25in (120cm) h, 32in (81cm) h, 15.25in (38.7cm) d. Hippolyte-Edme Pretot (1812-1855) is recorded at 16, rue de l'Abbaye in 1836 and from 1846 rue du Harlay. He exhibited at the 1849 Exposition National in Paris and London in 1852.
