Description

A George III mahogany tea chest, of rectangular form with quarter pilasters and a moulded edge hinged cover with a cast brass handle, revealing a japanned oval panel to the inside depicting a chinoserie scene of figures taking tea in a garden pavillion, a pair of Pontypool painted tole canisters having a scarlet ground with gilt decoration of chinoserie scenes and foliage, the undersides signed with a 'B' and a character, both with covers, one painted inside with a blue ground, a tea branch and inscribed 'China', the front with a cast gilt brass escutcheon, the base moulding raised on ogee bracket feet, with key, 6.5in (16.5in), 11in (28cm) w.
